Why One Diet Doesn’t Work for Everyone

Have you spent most of your life trying one fad diet, after another, after another, only to find yourself back to where you started, or, even more frustrating, worse off then when you started?  Have you been kicking your ass and eating perfectly and yet still can’t lose those 5,10, 15lbs?  You go on-line and research what’s wrong with you to find what I just wrote above and the link to yet another diet?

Well let me clarify something for you….It is not you!  None of us fit into exactly same the mold. We are not all exactly the same. One diet will not work for all of us.  The more and more we learn about DNA and the environmental impacts that influence it the more we are realizing that our past, our parents and even our grandparents pasts impact it. So many factors come into play when it comes to what works for your body. Not to mention all the changes that have happened to our food and nutrition over the past 100 years. It is nearly impossible to sort through and know what you should and shouldn’t be eating.  But there is a way and you just need to figure what works for you.

That path can be grueling! I know, I’ve done it… I spent most of my youth and young adult life trying to figure out what I had to eat, when I had to eat it and how much I had to exercise to make it all even out. It was miserable, MISERABLE! I didn’t realize how much it consumed me. It wasn’t until I started to listen to my body, like really listen to my body that I started to see results. And you know what it told me, I had a lost of S-H-I-T I had to deal with. I’m not just talking about fat and wrinkles and cellulite and a bad manicure. I’m talking about my relationships. My relationship with myself, my spouse, my family, my friends and my children. I had spent most of life telling myself not to feel. Not to feel hunger, because how could I be hungry my thighs were huge. Not to feel the exhaustion from a 2 hour workout, because being tired meant I was weak. Not to feel the sadness, because I had just blown off plans with friends because I felt fat. I wasn’t sad, I was stupid for eating that ice-cream the night before. Telling myself to ignore the terrible taste of the cardboard food (diet, sugar-free) I was eating, because of course I liked it, it was going to make me skinny. I had become so consumed with what I thought I should be doing that I was ignoring my body and what it really needed.

Once I finally got on to the path of true health, I made it my mission to make sure I could prevent as many people as I could from having to go through what I did. I though being a nurse would be the answer and realized that I was limited in what I could offer my patients because I was being told how to care for them. I went into personal training and began to see that no matter how much someone worked out, if they weren’t able to understand how their body functioned they wouldn’t be able to achieve their dream health. It was then that I realized I needed to help others by showing them the path to healing. Healing all the damage they had done to their bodies and minds for years to achieve that dream image. Healing their relationships with themselves and their family.  I decided to incorporate nutrition and wellness counseling and that has allowed me the opportunity to open the doors to others to find their path. One diet does not work everyone but I know the path to finding what does work.  If you want help finding the path to health and wellbeing and stop stressing about every little tiny thing you put in your mouth, keep checking back here.    Hopefully through this blog I can help you sort through all the information that is out there.  You can also check out my website at Glow Body Health & Wellness.  I am here to help!!
